About Me

Hi there. My name is Michelle and I am the artist behind Evangeline's Emporium. I have always been creative and enjoy making all sorts of things. I used to be a full time teacher, but gave that up at the end of 2017 and started making all the kinds of things that I would love to fill my house with.

I've always loved nature. I spent much of my childhood running around in woods or up to my knees in rivers and ponds looking for interesting things. I am also very inspired by the Victorian aesthetic and the way that everything was treasured, even after death. Hence a lot of my work involves animal bones, bugs, butterflies, and natural objects. I find beauty in the weird and wonderful, and love to utilise old, broken, discarded objects.

In more recent years I have developed a passion for printmaking and am working on improving my skills and exploring different techniques and subjects. So watch this space!

A note on sustainability and ethics

All of my animal remains are ethically sourced, either found in the wild or from trusted suppliers. As a lifelong animal lover, I believe in only using specimens that have lived out their natural life. This means that the bugs and bones I use are not perfect and may have flaws or missing parts.

I use a lot of broken, found, discarded, and vintage items that would otherwise be thrown away, and I aim to use sustainable packaging. Any bubble wrap or other plastics are being reused from parcels I receive.
